Preliminary treatment removes large debris and grit; primary treatment settles out suspended solids; secondary treatment uses microorganisms to break down organic matter biologically; and tertiary treatment filters and disinfects the water for safe reuse or discharge.
No. STP-treated water meets standards for reuse in flushing, gardening, cooling towers, and groundwater recharge — not for drinking. Drinking water requires additional advanced purification, such as RO combined with disinfection, beyond standard sewage treatment.
